Presentation
Domaine Roche-Audran was established in 1998, the year in which I decided to leave the cooperative winery system in order to produce my own wines and explore the specific characteristics of my vines.
The estate was initially purchased by my grandfather over half a century ago and today the vineyard has vines aged from 35 years old up to nearly one hundred years old, on three very different types of soils. One section is located in the Visan appellation where I have been making the ‘Le Père Mayeux’ wine since the year 2000. The second is on the commune of Buisson from which we have been producing, also since the year 2000, the ‘Cuvée César’. The third is on the edge of the prestigious Châteauneuf du Pape appellation, on the commune of Courthézon. This is the source for the ‘Le Caillou’ cuvée.
These three environments are extremely different and as a result, we not only vinify each parcel separately, we also individually vinify each soil type within each parcel. The objective here is to obtain wines with near perfect balance which must communicate and enhance the complexity of the blend of these difficult but fabulous soils.
Through respect for my vineyard, and my health, and in order to allow full natural expression from my soils, I only use natural products for fertilization and plant protection. In 2006 I began using bio-dynamic treatment throughout the vineyard. Furthermore, for many years now, we have been running the vineyard, from working the soils, to harvesting, racking and bottling... in harmony with cosmic cycles.
